C41 X POLIMODA 2024 GOOD USE, GOOD CHOICE Editorial
This project responds to the theme of “Good Choice” by interrogating the notion of sustainability within contemporary consumer culture. Rather than presenting a simplified narrative of ethical consumption, we question the systemic forces—corporate manipulation, overconsumption, and pervasive greenwashing—that undermine authentic sustainability.
Using the metaphor of puppetry, we depict consumers as figures whose choices are subtly controlled by corporations. Visual motifs such as enlarged hands, distorted facial features, and layered collages underscore the themes of greed, manipulation, and the fragility of individual agency. Our aesthetic approach is intentionally raw, tactile, and fragmented, reflecting the contradictions inherent in modern consumerism. Ultimately, this work challenges the audience to reconsider what truly constitutes a “good choice” in an era defined by excess and corporate power.
